A passenger trusted a Lyft to get home safely — and was hurt when the driver crashed

Our client did everything right — got in a rideshare and buckled up as a passenger. According to the petition, the Lyft driver caused a collision, and our client, who had no control over the vehicle, was injured when the airbags deployed. We represent the injured passenger against the rideshare company and its driver.
What Happened

A passenger with no control over the driving.

On or about August 1, 2025, our client was a passenger in a vehicle contracted to Lyft and operated by a Lyft driver, traveling in the Houston area.

According to the petition, the driver caused a collision — failing to keep a proper lookout, driving at an excessive speed, failing to brake or yield, failing to stay in the proper lane, and failing to maintain control of the vehicle.

A passenger in the back of a rideshare has no control over how the vehicle is driven — only the trust that the driver will operate it safely. When that trust is broken and a crash follows, the passenger is left to deal with injuries that were never his fault. The vehicle’s airbags deployed in the collision, and our client was hurt.

What We Found

A rideshare company and a driver responsible for a passenger’s safety.

When a person accepts a rideshare trip, the company and its driver take on responsibility for getting that passenger safely to their destination. The petition alleges that the Lyft driver’s negligence — in speed, lookout, braking, lane control, and control of the vehicle — caused this collision and the passenger’s injuries, and it brings claims against both the driver and the rideshare company.

We have gathered the accident report and are assembling our client’s medical records and bills documenting the treatment he needed after the crash, including emergency care and follow-up treatment. These allegations are claims in the petition, to be established through discovery and at trial.

What We Did

We’ve filed suit and we are protecting our client’s claim.

We represent the injured passenger and have filed suit in Harris County against the rideshare company and its driver. Our claims are for negligence — the failures in the operation of the vehicle that the petition alleges caused the crash. We put the responsible parties on notice early, secured the accident report, and are gathering the records needed to prove the injuries and losses.

A passenger should be able to get into a rideshare and trust that they’ll arrive safely. When a driver’s carelessness injures the person who trusted them, we hold the driver and the company accountable — and that is what we are doing in this case.
