In February 2025, a teenager was driving to school on a morning like any other, stopped in the turn lane on a highway in Orange County and waiting to make his turn.
According to the petition, another driver failed to yield the right of way at the intersection and crashed into him. The petition alleges the other driver failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to reduce speed, failed to brake or take evasive action, and failed to keep control of the vehicle. The force of the impact sent the teen’s vehicle spinning across the highway, where it came to rest in a ditch.
People nearby who saw the crash rushed to help, working to get the young driver out of the wrecked vehicle. He was taken from the scene by ambulance to the hospital, where he was evaluated and treated for serious injuries.
Every driver has a duty to stop, yield, and look for oncoming traffic before entering an intersection.
