A commercial 18-wheeler rear-ended a family on Highway 110 — and dragged them into the median

A family of three was on Highway 110 when a Select DS 18-wheeler slammed into the back of their vehicle. According to the petition, the truck pushed them all the way into the median and kept going — tearing their trailer loose and throwing their young son from his car seat. All three were hurt, and the family is now pursuing the trucking company in court.
What Happened

A rear-end impact that pushed a family into the median — and didn’t stop.

A mother, father, and their young son were traveling together on Highway 110, hauling a trailer, when — according to the petition — a tractor-trailer operated by Select Dedicated Solutions struck them from behind. The force of the impact drove their vehicle across the roadway and into the median.

The collision did not end there. According to the petition, the 18-wheeler continued forward and pushed the family’s vehicle along with it, tearing the trailer loose. In the violence of the crash, the couple’s young son was thrown from his car seat.

All three members of the family were injured. They were taken for medical care, and their treatment has since included orthopedic care, diagnostic imaging, neurosurgical evaluation, and assessment for traumatic brain injury. What should have been an ordinary drive became a crash that sent an entire family to the doctor.

What We Found

A commercial carrier’s truck — and a rear-end collision it is responsible for.

The vehicle that struck the family was a commercial 18-wheeler connected to Select Dedicated Solutions (Select DS) — a motor carrier that is responsible for the trucks it puts on the road and the drivers it puts behind the wheel. A fully loaded tractor-trailer that rear-ends a passenger vehicle carries enormous force, and Texas and federal trucking rules require carriers and their drivers to keep a safe following distance, to maintain control of the vehicle, and to avoid exactly this kind of preventable rear-end collision.

We are pursuing the trucking company’s records — the driver’s qualifications and hours, the truck’s maintenance and inspection history, any dashcam or telematics data, the crash report, and the company’s insurance coverage — to establish how this crash happened and who is accountable. The investigating agency’s crash report and an accident-reconstruction expert have been identified as part of building the case.

What We Did

We’ve filed suit and we are holding the trucking company accountable.

We represent the family — the mother and father, individually and on behalf of their minor child — and we have filed suit in Chambers County against Select Dedicated Solutions and the related parties responsible for the truck. Our claims include negligence and negligence in the operation, entrustment, and supervision of a commercial vehicle. Written discovery is underway, and the family is still treating for their injuries.

A trucking company does not get to put an 18-wheeler on the highway, rear-end a family hauling their belongings, and walk away while a mother, father, and child are left injured. We intend to hold the company and its driver fully accountable for the harm they caused.
